If this nation — the u.s.a. — is relatively more respecting of dissent, and basic domestic human rights, then…..what helps keep it so? Which beliefs, practices, values, institutional history assists? Ideas invited and btw — this discussion grew out of the images of the photography. thanks.

What makes us human? is it the idea that our basic needs are an inherent right? or is it the selflessness that wants to see those needs taken care of for everyone?

Women in Borges’ photos are an inspiration! So many of them took simple actions like demanding an end to female circumcision and found that centuries old societal traditions just crumbled when other villagers suddenly realized they didn’t make sense. I wish the practice of torture in Guantanamo would crumble as easily. We all can help make this change by getting involved wit Amnesty International. Maybe start with http://www.tearitdown.org/. ;-)

Wow, love Phil Borges work, each expressive photo a story in face and eyes. The Marine Ty expressed so much in his present features just as impressed that his now wife expressed – Thanks for the exhibit ~ T
