Jesus the hummingbird is, judging from the photos, an "anna's" humminbird. They have recently (well, in the last 20 years or so) extended their natural range -- as far north as northern CA -- to the northwest. Alas, the little dumbbells *don't* migrate. They winter over here unlike the local tribes of hummingbirds -- mostly rufous and calliope -- that have it in their genes to head south for the winter. They winter over in our holly hedge. If you put up a feeder you'll have them coming to it all winter then squabbling with the locals when they return in the spring. I had my own hummingbird miracle -- same scenario. Dog woofing at a thump, dazed hummer on the deck, tlc followed by holding in my hand until he recovered.
